We are very happy to start this new section in the CITZZY Kids Concept Store Journal, where you can find out who is behind each of the brands that are part of our universe. This makes us very happy!

We have already told you about it on several occasions, but the work behind the selection of brands, that make up our online shop, goes far beyond the aesthetic part of the collections. We are committed to sustainable brands that are careful with their manufacturing processes, that make quality clothing and that opt for the comfort of the little ones.

Today, we start this new section with Rie, the founder of Monsieur Mini, a Danish eco-friendly children’s fashion brand created in 2014 and which you can find here.

What led you to create Monsieur Mini?

When I got my first son 8 years ago I found that there weren’t as many fun and cute choices for boys clothing. And I thought that was a shame, and also didn’t like that boys were mainly meant to wear blue and girls pink. Earlier I had been designing women’s clothing  for more than 10 years before I got my son, so I naturally got into the kids universe and started making hand-printed unique prints on T-shirts and more. This is how it all started, and suddenly I couldn’t keep up with the orders by hand. So after consideration I started producing my own styles, with my own prints in India in small quantities.

Did you have previous experience in the world of children’s fashion, or did you start from scratch?

As mentioned before, I have been a women’s wear designer earlier, and naturally, my focus shifted when becoming a mom, and I really love the kids universe and more simple styles (compared to women’s clothing) that focus on cute prints, details and being comfortable and easy to wear. So no not actually but it came very naturally.

How would you define your brand?

Comfortable, cute & unisex.

Do you think sustainable fashion is a “boom” or has it come to stay?

I’m really happy the awareness is growing these days for the shops selections and also the customers. I really hope it won’t change, since we need to treat our nature better, by choosing and buying better and fewer products in order to take good care of our planet. As well show our kids an awareness that choosing sustainable choices are important.

What is the most important difficulty in creating a sustainable brand?

When being a small brand it’s about choosing what is the most important for you and getting help from professionals, so you are sure you get the right sustainable choices, there are so many I would be difficult to do all at once. Sustainable choices are in constant development, and you need to follow this carefully, since new choices and every day we learn more. So what was being taught as sustainable can shift as we learn more every day, and therefore we need to follow this development carefully and wisely. It is not easy being small but it’s so worth it.

For me, it’s also the little choices, such as hangtags out of recycled paper, recycled wrapping and using old cardboard boxes more than once for shipping goods. This goes for businesses like mine and also for us as customers, every little thing you do is also a choice, so try to make as many sustainable as possible.

Which is the most special item or your favorite one from your SS21 collection? Why?

I think it’s the ice cream all over print, it’s very playful and sweet and very Monsieur Mini, and I don’t know any kids that don’t like ice cream, and would like to wear them too.
What would you highlight about CITZZY Kids Concept Store?

I will highlight you Marta, your carefully selected styles and style of Citzzy Kids. I was so nice meeting you at Playtime Paris some years ago and being at your shop ever since. I’m happy to be in;)
